Discovery Park Needs A Wind Layer
Discovery Park is not a “just grab shoes” walk if the loop gets anywhere near the bluff.
My small kit for it should be:
- thin wind shell
- hat that can handle sun and wind
- one snack before the beach stairs, not after
- water in the stroller, not in the car
- backup socks if my kid finds mud by the meadow
The Seattle forecast can say 68 and pleasant. The bluff can still feel like someone opened a refrigerator door over Puget Sound. A sweatshirt is fine in the trees and annoying on the exposed bits. The wind shell packs smaller and solves the actual problem.
The other rule: decide before leaving whether this is a loop walk or a beach-stairs walk. Pretending those are the same outing is how a nice afternoon becomes logistics with a view.
