Download Western Washington In Google Maps

I downloaded an offline Google Maps area that covers Seattle, the ferries, and the trailheads I am likely to use in Western Washington.

This is not mainly for long trips. Mobile service can disappear surprisingly close to home, and the worst time to discover that is after changing plans with a tired toddler in the car.

My map covers more than the intended destination. I include the route home and enough surrounding area for a different trail, ferry terminal, or lunch stop. Google Maps shows the download size before saving it, so I can widen the rectangle without guessing what it will cost in storage.

I also leave automatic updates enabled so the saved roads and place data do not go stale.
