H Mart Frozen Dumplings Need A Weeknight Plan
Frozen dumplings from H Mart are dinner, but only if the rest of dinner is already decided.
My short version:
- Put the dumplings in a covered skillet with a shallow layer of water.
- Steam until the water is gone.
- Add a little oil and let the bottoms brown.
- While they cook, boil noodles or rice and slice scallions.
- Put kimchi on the table before someone starts eating dumplings straight from the pan.
The useful part is not the cooking method. It is keeping the supporting ingredients around. A bag of frozen dumplings can sit in the freezer for weeks. Scallions cannot. I either buy them on the same H Mart trip or use frozen spinach as the vegetable and stop pretending this is a project.
For a quick sauce, I mix soy sauce with a little rice vinegar and sesame oil. Chili crisp works too, but it turns a toddler-friendly dinner into a negotiation, so I add it at the table.
The whole meal takes about 15 minutes and uses one skillet, one pot, and a bowl for sauce. That is the right size for a weeknight.
