Easy Homemade Bread Recipe

A big kudos to my wife who shared this recipe with me and taught me how to make it.

Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups flour
  • 0.5 cup flour (set aside for later)
  • 1.5 cups warm water (about 100°F)
  • 0.5 tbsp salt
  • 0.5 tbsp dry yeast

Warm the Oven

Preheat your oven to 110°F.
If your oven can’t go that low, heat it to 200°F, then turn it off once it cools to around 110°F.

Mix the Dough

  1. Add 3.5 cups flour to a mixer bowl.
  2. Add warm water, salt, and yeast.
  3. Mix until combined.
  4. Add 1 tbsp of the extra flour at a time until the dough becomes one smooth piece (usually 3–4 tbsp).

Let the Dough Rest (1 Hour)

  1. Take a 5-liter plastic container with a lid.
  2. Coat the inside lightly with olive oil.
  3. Place the dough inside.
  4. Cover with the lid, leaving a small gap.
  5. Put a towel under the container and place it in the warm oven for 1 hour.

Preheat the Oven to 450°F

Take the dough out of the oven.
Preheat the oven to 450°F.

Shape the Dough

  1. Lightly flour the inside of the lid.
  2. Turn the dough onto the floured lid.
  3. Gently fold the dough from bottom to top until coated with flour.
  4. Shape the top like a large dumpling.
  5. Flip the dough upside down onto non-stick baking paper.
  6. Cover it with the plastic container while waiting for the oven to heat.

Bake

  1. When the oven reaches 450°F, score 3 small cuts on the top.
  2. Place the dough in the oven.
  3. Bake for 25 minutes.

Cool

Place the bread on a rack or a surface with airflow underneath.
Let it cool completely — then enjoy!
